Southern
Sentinel
In
the 1990’s I was married to a particularly wonderful Southern gentleman,
who had a long history with the south. His parents lived in a house that
was over 150 years old. It had been passed down through the family and
they inherited it.
It was a 2 bedroom with an attic. My husband, I and my two girls stayed
in the attic when we went there for the weekends to visit. Upstairs, there
were 2 full size beds, Amanda, my oldest and Alexandria, my youngest slept
in one bed and me and (lets say Edward, to protect the innocent) slept
in the other bed.
On this particular weekend, we had driven up from Atlanta to South Carolina.
The girls were fine, laughing and playing. As usual, we gave them baths
then sent them to bed so that we could visit with his parents. They went
to bed about 9:30 PM and we followed behind at approximately 11:00PM (if
my memory serves me correctly)
When we went to bed, we, as usual, checked on the girls. Amanda was on
the outside of the bed and Alexandria was on the inside, closest to the
wall. They were fine when we checked on them. We immediately fell asleep.
Edward on the inside, closest to the wall and me to the outside of the
bed.At
about 2AM – I felt someone shaking me – from the outside of
the bed. Only, I didn’t really realize it at that moment because
I was asleep. My arm was cold and I said “Leave me alone, I’m
sleeping.” Then I fell back asleep. Later (I can’t tell you
how later on it was because I didn’t look at the clock) I heard
my nickname being used “Kimi, wake up” and having my arm kind
of shaken that was out from underneath the covers. “You need to
wake up.” I said “I’m sleeping”, at the time I
thought it was my father-in-law. There was no way that Edward could have
shaken me from that side, plus, it wasn’t Edwards’s voice.
It was a mans voice that was much deeper than Edwards, then my arm got
cold again, so I put it back under the covers. At 2:20AM exactly, I got
shaken even harder and I heard the mans voice saying to me “Kimi,
wake up! You need to wake up, the girls need you!” I woke up fully
at that point and saw a figure standing about foot away from me…
but I didn’t think it was ghost, I thought it was my father-in-law.
So, I dragged myself out of bed and sat on the edge of the girl’s
bed. I touched Amanda and she was sleeping hard… then I reached
over and touched Alexandria and she was BURNING UP! I picked her up and
woke up Edward. We took her downstairs and started running a bath to try
to break the fever…
While the bath was running, I told Edward about his dad waking me up for
the girls... what he said and etc. Edward said, “Where was he when
you got Alexandria” and I said that I had forgotten about him when
I went to check on the girls.
About 15 minutes later, my father-in-law came into the bathroom and asked
if everything was alright. I told him…”I’m so glad you
woke me up for Alex. How did you know that she had a fever?” He
looked at me like I was NUTS!!! He said he NEVER came up to the room.
Anyway, we rushed our daughter to the hospital and she was treated for
her illness. We got back at about 7AM. It was at that point we all sat
down and talked about what happened. No one EVER came upstairs…no
one in that household, anyway.
…although, they did tell me that it isn’t unusual for the
ghost of a “family” member of theirs to take care of the family…
or something like that…
I never saw that “figure” or heard the voice again. I thought
it was odd that he used the nickname that only about 3 people use on me.
I still don’t know if it was a ghost or apparition, but there is
no logical explanation for it to this day.
